Originally from Muncie and Greenfield respectively, we met at Ball State University during our Sophomore year of college. In the following years we created a life together, getting married and having our two children, our daughter Joey and our son Jack. In 2012 our daughter expressed interest in horse back riding lessons. Having ridden horses growing up, Jacqueline was excited to get back into the horse world. By the end of 2012 we had bought our first family horse, Sunny, and both Jacqueline and Joey took riding lessons. For the next two years our family would spend more and more time at the barn. In 2014, the barn that we boarded our horses at shut down. It was then that we decided to start the search for a farm of our own.
In 2015 our family moved onto a 17 acre farm outside of Muncie. By this time we had 4 horses, Sunny, Hans, Ty, and Boone. We quickly started working on building a riding facility of our own. In 2016 we officially opened the doors to Burton Farm.
In the last 7 years our farm has grown tremendously. It is now located on 80 acres of land, and is currently home to 16 horses. 11 of these horses are owned by the Burton family, 7 of which are actively used in the lesson program. To learn more about our horses, visit our Horse information pages. In addition to horses, Burton Farm is home cattle, hogs, honeybees, dogs, cats, goats and chickens.
We have always encouraged our children and our lesson students to expand their equine knowledge as much as possible! Participating in local shows, visiting clinicians, competing in IEA (Interscholastic Equestrian Association) and 4-H, we stay busy throughout the year. We are both on the board for the Delaware Co. 4-H Horse and Pony, and Jacqueline is the coach for the Burton Farm IEA team, along with being the primary lesson instructor.
Outside of the equine world, we are members of First Presbyterian Church and coaches for the Burris High school Girls’ Tennis Team. Jacqueline is a member of Psi Iota Xi, a local philanthropic sorority where she currently sits on the board. Along with all our other activities, we love swimming, tennis, music, and gardening. There is always music in our home, with our daughter playing the flute and our son playing the trumpet.
We hope that you love Burton Farm just as much as we do! Please feel free to contact us with any questions at info@burtonfarm.org.
